D&D establishes annual scholarship for first responders and their families

For those who dedicate their lives to serving their communities, D&D dedicates a new scholarship to supporting America’s heroes.

Emergency responders are vital to keeping our communities safe. Every day, hundreds of Americans rely on emergency responders to be there during the scariest of times. When an accident happens, emergency responders are the first ones on the scene. They are on the front lines of traumatic injuries and devastating losses and through natural disasters, fires, and acts of terror, these men and women run towards danger while others flee.

In a national survey conducted by CareerCast, being an emergency responder was ranked the second most stressful job in the United States. For perspective, being enlisted in the military was ranked number one.

As a personal injury law firm, we see the aftermath of car accidents, boat accidents, and other types of traumatic events. We have had hundreds of accident cases where we know that had it not been for the quick thinking and calm action of the emergency responders, the outcomes of these accidents would have been a lot worse. That’s why, if you save lives, we’d like to help you.

About the scholarship for Emergency Responders

The Darrigo & Diaz Annual Scholarship for Emergency Responders and Their Families is just a part of our effort to recognize firefighters, paramedics, law enforcement and other selfless civil servants for their actions, bravery and willingness to serve. Providing financial assistance to both emergency responders and their family members, the $1,000 scholarship will be awarded once a year to support those who are actively furthering their educations at an accredited institution.

Eligible applicants will be students who are currently enrolled in an accredited institution or who are currently accepted to an accredited institution. Applicants are also required to submit one brief personal statement (under 1,000 words) either describing their career aspirations as an emergency responder and how this scholarship will help or describing how being a family member of an emergency responder has shaped their goals in life. All applications must be submitted by November 30, 2019. The scholarship will be awarded in December 2019.
