How bad is traffic in the Tampa Bay area?
According to a recent study (April 2015) by GPS manufacturer Tom Tom, Tampa landed at No. 21 out of 63 on a list ranking the most congested areas for traffic in the Americas. The study factored in congestion levels, or the percentage of commuters experiencing traffic congestion and the length of time, for 180 largest cities.
Furthermore, the Tampa Bay Business Journal used this study and did a survey which revealed some of the worst traffic spots in the Tampa Bay area according to readers.
The Tampa Bay Business Journal took the results from Tom Tom’s survey and asked its readers to provide more detailed information: specifically, where the worst spots are located.
It looks like the most complained about traffic spot is Interstate 275, specifically the Howard Frankland bridge. However, the Northbound exit at Kennedy Boulevard leading into the Westshore area was the most mentioned out of all other areas in Tampa Bay.
Readers also mentioned other congested areas such as Downtown Tampa, the Fowler area and the intersection of Gandy and Roosevelt Boulevards in St. Petersburg. The Veterans Expressway, Interstate 4 and Dale Mabry Hwy. were the next most complained about spots.
Tampa is a growing city and lately traffic congestion is a reflection of its increasing population. It is no surprise that these congested traffic spots are right in line with current crash data.
